Psychodynamic + relational therapy · Nyack / telehealth across New York
For the patterns you can name, and still find yourself repeating.
I work with adults and couples who want to understand what keeps happening beneath anxiety, people-pleasing, disconnection, and recurring relationship patterns. We pay attention to what is happening now, what repeats, and the history that gives those patterns meaning.

Patterns can sound ordinary
I’m the reliable one.
I can tell the second the room changes.
I say yes, then resent it.
We keep having the same argument.
I’m fine. I’m just tired.
What feels like personality can sometimes be a pattern with a history.
How the work goes
Much of how you love, work, and withdraw began taking shape before you had words for it.
Psychodynamic therapy takes a longer view of what is happening now. Alongside the immediate problem, we pay attention to what repeats: the argument you have already had four times, the yes that leaves your mouth before you have decided, the reaction that seems larger than the moment that triggered it.
These patterns may once have helped you adapt, connect, protect yourself, or get through something difficult. Therapy makes room to understand what they are doing now, where they may have come from, and whether you still want them making the decision for you.
Areas of focus
What people most often bring.
Social anxiety
When the room itself becomes something you are constantly reading, and the monitoring costs more than anyone else can see.
People-pleasing
When yes comes quickly and your own preference arrives later.
C-PTSD and attachment
When closeness can feel charged, uncertain, or difficult to trust, even when part of you wants it deeply.
Highly sensitive people
When you notice subtle shifts, emotion, and stimulation quickly, and have often been told you are too sensitive.
Life transitions
The moments that quietly rearrange who you are: a move, a loss, a role that ends or begins.
Couples
The cycle you keep returning to, and what each of you may be reaching for underneath it.
What repeats is usually the part that once kept you safe.

About
I am especially drawn to people who feel alone inside relationships that matter deeply.
I work with individuals and couples in a warm, relational way, with attention to depth, attachment, and the patterns that shape connection. I am especially interested in the experience of wanting closeness while finding it difficult to feel secure, known, or fully present within relationships.
Two ways I work
Individual and couples therapy, with the same attention to patterns, attachment, and connection.
Individual therapy
For adults carrying anxiety, over-attunement to everyone else, or a pattern in relationships that has outlived whatever it was once protecting.

Couples therapy
For two people returning to the same argument, or living at a distance that neither of them chose. Not communication drills, but what closeness is being reached for underneath.

Getting started
How this actually starts.
- First
- Email Shannon, or request a consultation through Maverick Psychotherapy Group.
- Then
- We talk about what brings you in, what you have already tried, and how I work.
- After that
- If the fit feels right, we choose a regular time. Sessions are online, for clients located in New York State.
You can begin with what is happening now.
A consultation is a conversation about what brings you in and whether my way of working feels like a useful fit. If I do not think I am the right person for what you need, I will tell you.
